The Kelsick Centre in St Mary’s Lane is at the heart of village life as well as being the administrative centre of the Kelsick Educational Foundation. It provides a spacious, comfortable and convenient venue on the level in the centre of Ambleside, only 100m from King Street car park, with on-street disc parking nearby and space in front of the building for offloading.
The space consists of the Kelsick Hall and the smaller Cumpstone Meeting Room with adjoining kitchen on the ground floor, and the Mackereth suite meeting room upstairs. Toilets are located downstairs at both ends of the building including fully disabled access and additional facilities. Room hire rates by the hour or day are very reasonable.
Many groups have been happily accommodated by the Kelsick over many years, and the large hall becomes a theatre twice a year for Ambleside Players’ productions, and an exhibition hall for Ambleside & District Horticultural & Craft Society’s Daffodil & Spring Flower Show as well as the Summer Flower Show and Produce Show.
Other uses include public meetings and presentations, choir rehearsals, private parties, lectures, slideshows, toddler and playgroup sessions, coffee mornings, bingo and quiz nights and keep fit and dance classes. The hall, which has a public entertainment licence, accommodates up to 125 people, or 75 with tables, has a sealed wooden sprung floor, high quality lighting and is acoustically treated.
Smaller groups use the ground-floor Cumpstone Room which accommodates up to 40, and has an adjoining kitchen equipped with a sink, fridge, oven and microwave, crockery and cutlery and a serving hatch through to the Cumpstone Room. On the first floor is the Mackereth Suite comprising two rooms, accommodating up to 66 people in the larger room which is ideal for business meetings, parties, receptions, clubs and classes. The adjoining room is furnished with crockery, water heater, sink and fridge.
